LUCINDA POPP FOR FILOSCOZIA®/FILMAR @ FEEL THE YARN

The young designer, Lucinda Popp, interpreted Filoscozia for Filmar Spa in the fourth contest of Feel the Yarn, during Pitti Filati in July. The twenty-two year old Londoner, who recently graduated in Fashion Design from Kingston University, specializes in designing knitwear for women. As a student, she worked as an intern with companies such as Banana Republic, H&M, and Topshop. In research and design, Lucinda always complements the experimental creation of her work with manual machines. Her graduate collection was selected to be paraded during the London fashion week: an event of great prestige which every year launches new young designers in the fashion industry. “I was happy to have been selected among the 25 best graduates in the UK. From October, I intend to continue my studies with a Master's degree at the famous Royal College of Art in London in order to hone my skills to a higher level“.

For Feel the Yarn, Lucinda took inspiration from the zoomorphic A/W2014 trends with a fun and modern approach. The three outfits in her sporty apres-ski style mix the smooth and beautiful Filoscozia yarns with glamor and humor using Marabou feathers: “long black lashes on a balaclava knit!

This beautiful yarn has encouraged me to create experimental textures and surfaces, bringing new life to this precious material. It is the first time that I have worked with cotton and of course I wanted to embrace the Filoscozia quality by experimenting with the same shirt in contrasting thick ribbons with a very light inlay. What I like most about this thread is its reflective quality, glossy and bright, so modern and fresh!“ Most of the pieces in the collection Feel the Yarn were created by Lucinda on a home machine and a Dubied at the university, while some pieces were produced on a Shima. “Mixing the different weights, I developed exciting stiches, in sophisticated shades of gray, olive green and light white.

The time I spent in Italy was a great inspiration and I thank Filmar Spa for their hospitality. During my time at Filmar I got to know the entire production process, where the fibers of raw cotton from Egypt are spun and dyed and I learnt the value that a yarn manufacturer like Filmar can have for the fashion industry.
